How to do a scatter plot with empty circles in Python?

Would these work?

plt.scatter(np.random.randn(100), np.random.randn(100), facecolors='none')

example image

or using plot()

plt.plot(np.random.randn(100), np.random.randn(100), 'o', mfc='none')

From the documentation for scatter:

Optional kwargs control the Collection properties; in particular:

    edgecolors:
        The string ‘none’ to plot faces with no outlines
    facecolors:
        The string ‘none’ to plot unfilled outlines

Try the following:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np

x = np.random.randn(60)
y = np.random.randn(60)

plt.scatter(x, y, s=80, facecolors='none', edgecolors='r')
plt.show()

Note: For other types of plots see this post on the use of markeredgecolor and markerfacecolor.
